i was listening to one of my favorite bands today (Flyleaf) and i was listening to this song called “Cassie”. the song tells about an incident that really happened to this teenage girl a few years ago. There was someone with a gun going through a high school or something like that and he came up to this girl, pointing his gun at her and he asked her if she was a Christian. she knew that if she said yes, he was going to shoot her. even though she would lose her life, she knew what she wanted to do. she wanted to take a stand for Christ so she said yes. her life ended that day.
every time i hear that song by Flyleaf, i ask myself “Would I have that kind of faith that i would give up my life for Christ?”. I know that I would want to say yes and stand up for Him but when i really think about it, i know i would probably not have that amazing faith and i would be too weak and say no to save my life. and then i would live with the guilt of letting Christ down. But i think about how brave she was and how great her faith was in Christ that she was willing to die for Him. and I wonder… How many people would have that kind of faith that they would die for Christ and give up their lives? We read about how people did that a lot in Bible times and we only hear about that happening now every once in a while or we rarely ever hear about it. But i wonder…. Would you have that amazing faith and trust in God?
In Daniel 3, you can read about these three guys: Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.these three guys were told by King Nebuchadnezzar to worship these gods and false idol s of they would be thrown into a fiery furnace. and here is what they said…
“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O King,. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O King, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” —Daniel 3:17-18
So, knowing that they were about to be thrown into a furnace, they knew that whatever happened, God was in control. They put their complete and total faith in God’s plan for their lives. Now at the end of the story, God did save them from death and kept them safe in the fire. But they had complete trust in God and were willing to die for Him.
That right there is another example of amazing faith! Both of those stories showed people who were willing to give up everything and die for Christ. Yes, those guys didn’t die for their faith like that teenage girl, but they were willing to.
So yeah… i thought about that today as i was listening to Flyleaf and doing homework. (no i dont’t think about death a lot and i’m not morbid but it just amazes me about how these people had extreme faith for God that they were willing to go over the edge for Christ!)
